In a joint press statement released March 8, 2021, Minister of Education Heinz Faßmann and ÖH chairwoman Sabine Hanger presented updated information on the ÖH elections 2021.
Here are the changes at a glance:
1. The signatures of one active elected student representative and the legal representative are now sufficient to nominate campaigning groups/parties for the ÖH elections.
2. Election commission meetings and student representative assemblies may now also take place purely virtually.
3. The electoral roll was digitized; it can now also be inspected electronically.
Federal Minister Heinz Faßmann and ÖH chairwoman Sabine Hanger stress that elections in May will take place without jeopardizing the health of candidates or students. Hanger further states that it is particularly important to participate in the elections during these trying times in order to lend the ÖH a strong voice for the next two years.
“The crisis has demonstrated how important a strong student representation is for all students. From the provision of the Hardship Fund, endowed with a budget of over one million euros, to increased availability of free mental health counseling services for students – the ÖH has been and continues to be a strong partner for students in this crisis!“
